This is a collection of beautiful uplifting poems about life, love, loss, and self-reflection. I was so captivated by Thomas' writing that I finished the book in one sitting.
With his poems, Thomas was able to create a gentle calming mood for the reader. The poems were never hateful or criticizing. Thomas acknowledged and validated the turmoil of emotions that consume after a painful experience.
However, the poems encourage optimism and hope for a brighter future. That the reader deserves better. And that we must fight and work to reach that better.
The book is divided into 5 parts with each focusing on a different theme. All which are equally good and wonderfully written. Scattered throughout are short poetic letters to the reader and humble, but lovely illustrations. All which I felt added a personal touch and deepened one's connection to the poems. There were several favorites of mine. "An Empty Parking Lot", "A Face in the Crowd", "A Thing You Cannot Point At", "A Handprint on a Window", and "A Way to Touch the Future" which made me tear up. I highly recommend The Truth of You for those that enjoy poetry and for those that would appreciate a bit more light.
My rating: ?????
