Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly book meme hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings. It's a fun way for bookworms to share the upcoming releases that they are most excited for. I've been very interested in reading mysteries lately. So my Can't-Wait Wednesday highlight is How Everything Turns Away by Steven J. Kolbe!

"Are you telling me the army cares about my morale?" Jacob indicated the vast array of military firepower before them. "You know how much of this we're going to get? A shovel. That's all I've done since coming to England-dig foxholes. If I ever come face-to-face with Hitler, I'm going to have to beat him over the head with my shovel." -War Stories by Gordon Korman

I am so excited because this one releases tomorrow! I loved Pastel Pink and I'm looking forward to reading Ruby Red which is the second book in Nikki Minty's Zadok series. The first book ended on a cliffhanger so I am ready!
I feel like a problematic book gets released at least once a month. But despite the book's content or author's background, you'll rarely ever see me on Twitter demanding it to be cancelled or calling for a boycott.
Here's a bit of my background. My family comes from a developing country. One where freedom of the press is a joke and going against the status quo can get you killed. Heck, a relative of mine was nearly killed once by state soldiers for having a different opinion. Let's be real. Cancelling books is a form of censorship. And I hate censorship with a burning passion.
"When the body of a teenage Ojibwe girl washes up on the shore of an island in Lake Superior, the residents of the nearby Bad Bluff reservation whisper that it was the work of a deadly mythical beast, the Windigo, or a vengeful spirit called Michi Peshu. Such stories have been told by the Ojibwe people for generations, but they don’t explain how the girl and her friend, Mariah Arceneaux, disappeared a year ago. At the request of the Arceneaux family, private investigator Cork O’Connor takes on the case. But on the Bad Bluff reservation, nobody’s talking."
This is the first book I've read by William Kent Krueger. I discovered Windigo Island thanks to my Hoopla Digital "Recommended for You" section. Honestly, this is one of the best books I've read in a while! |
