Ask Baba Yaga had been on my TBR since it was featured on Spirits Podcast and it was one of the books I was most excited to read to kick-off 2021. "In age-old Slavic fairy tales, the witch Baba Yaga is sought out by those with a burning need for guidance. In contemporary life, Baba Yaga—a dangerous, slippery oracle—answered earnest questions on The Hairpin for years. These pages collect her most poignant, surreal, and humorous exchanges along with all-new questions and answers for those seeking her mystical advice."-Goodreads I absolutely loved the concept of it. After all the Brothers Grimm and Disney retellings, Ask Baba Yaga felt different and fresh. Unfortunately, Ask Baba Yaga just didn't do it for me.
Ask Baba Yaga has no beginning and no end. It's back-to-back advice columns with no pause and no filler in-between. The questions are definitely relatable and fairly similar to what you'll see in a newspaper. But Baba Yaga's responses only contain a few memorable lines and it felt like you could tell which questions the author felt more comfortable answering and which ones were written with a bit more hesitancy. Nothing is connected so if a reader wanted to skip around they would be able to do so without missing anything. At times I felt like doing so to read the more interesting responses, but I decided to read through all of it. It's not a book I would deter people from reading as there were some parts I did like, but it also wasn't one I deeply enjoyed. My Rating: 💙💙 Amazon | Bookshop

Sorry this wasn't your favorite but it's good to know. I find it hard to review books which aren't what I expect or prefer. Sometimes they are not bad books in any way, they just weren't for me.
